Inscribed on the reverse and on labels attached to the backboard

Irby Mill, built 1776 by a great uncle of the Hale of West Kirby, Richard Hale. It stopped working 1888, taken down about 1896 according to John Capper of Thingwall 1926, the east wooden mill in Wirral.
