Description / Expertise

Born in about 1837 in London, Bouvier was a student at the Royal Academy before going on to complete his studies in France and Italy. He is first known to have exhibited at the British Institution in 1845 with a picture entitled The Fish Market in Boulogne. In 1852 he exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy and continued to exhibit there over the years that followed with several genre scenes and a series of idealised feminine portraits: Jessica in 1854, Emily in 1857, and Hermosita in 1859. From 1865 he was a member of the New Watercolour Society.
