Description / Expertise

A painter and an etcher of landscapes, Walter James studied under David Cooper and Frank Short and was a pupil of Giovanni Costa. He was the youngest of followers of Costa known as The Etruscans and a friend of George Howard, the Earl of Carlisle.

Walter James exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1897 onwards works such as Northumberland Hills, In Umbria and A Redesdale Landscape. He was also a Trustee of the Wallace Collection.
