The photographs in Colonel William Frampton’s album are not by him, but are a selection from those taken by a team from the Bengal Sappers and Miners during the Second Afghan War.

Colonel Frampton served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 in the Quetta, afterwards the Ghuznee Field Force under Sir Donald Stewart, and was present in the engagements at Ahmed Khey and at Urzoo near Ghuznee .

Panoramic-format album containing ten albumen prints each approximately 8 x 11 inches, and five two-part albumen print panoramas approximately 6½ x 18½ inches to 8 x 21 inches. The panoramas and some of the individual views are titled in pencil on mounts, leather label stamped in gilt Colonel Frampton 59th. Regiment inside front cover, burgundy morocco, ruled and titled in gilt on front cover, the album approximately 13¾ x 22 inches.
