Exhibition History
Christopher Drake Ltd, Paul Nash watercolours and Drawings for 'Urne Buriall and the Garden of Cyrus, number 9, 1973?
Description / Expertise
In 1930, Nash was asked by John Carter to undertake thirty drawings, which were to be used as illustrations for Urne Buriall and The Garden of Cyrus by Sir Thomas Browne with an introduction by John Carter. The book was to be published by Cassell and printed by the Curwen Press. The illustrations were to be monochrome collotypes hand-coloured by the staff of the Curwen Press. The present drawing is a preparatory study for plate five of the book and was probably drawn between October 1931- May 1932.(1)
