Literature

Martyn Gregory, London, British Watercolours and Paintings, Pictures relating to China and the Far East, catalogue 72: Millais was at this time engaged in painting the background to "The Proscribed Royalist" in the vicinity of Hayes, Kent, where he was lodging at the George; possibly these drawings were portraits of fellow-diners at the inn.
