Description / Expertise

Bronwyn is very well known in Sydney and Brisbane although she has never really exhibited in Melbourne. A foundation artist at Boomali Aboriginal Artists Coop in Sydney, other foundation peers included internationally known artists such as Tracey Moffatt and Judy Watson.

This is from the last body of work and shows her great skill in design with a painterly edge. A very popular painting, last night I saw this body of work and felt it was beautiful. She is very hard working and a very ambitious Koori artist, or urban Aboriginal artist. Aside from the fact that is quite delicious acquiring it would make sense if you wanted to begin collecting urban koori art such as Trevor Nickolls, Gordon Bennett, Richard Bell, Ben Pushman and Chris Pease and Judy Watson. I think its a very exciting direction to take your collection, they all have something to say, sometimes its very gritty. Bronwyn and Judy Watson though make beautiful paintings. Most are very accessible $ wise as the collectors here get gun shy of the politics but its very relevant and very affordable with the exception of Gordon Bennet, who has won several major contemporary art prizes which has pushed his price into the tens of thousands. The surface is very much like watercolour and gouache on paper, thats because she has spent many years in textiles and really pushes the paint into the fabric/canvas. Its luminous and very Klimt inspired, whilst being original.
